Expatriate Zone
Last reviewed: 1 September 2026
This policy explains how Expatriate Zone handles personal information when you browse the site, create an account, post a classified, contact a provider or submit a business claim. It is written for a Kenya-focused platform and should be read with our Terms & Conditions.
1. Information we collect
We collect the information needed to run the service. That can include your name, email address, password account record, account-verification status, classifieds, messages sent through our forms and any contact details you choose to place in a public listing.
For a provider claim, we also collect the claimant’s name, role, work email, Kenya business phone number, business name, business area, declared verification route and internal review notes. We use this information to assess the claim. KYC claim information is private: it is not displayed on a directory profile. Please do not send full identity numbers, copies of identity documents or document images through our forms.
We may also receive transaction and order-reference information for paid visibility upgrades, together with basic technical information such as browser type, IP address, device information, cookies and server logs.
2. Why we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts; display and manage classifieds; review provider claims; prevent fraud and abuse; provide support; process paid upgrades; send verification, moderation, expiry and receipt notices; improve the site; and comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information. We do not use private KYC claim details as advertising material or publish them on provider pages.
3. What becomes public
A published classified can show the content, images, price or contact note that its author chose to submit. An approved directory profile can show provider information that has been reviewed for publication. Draft research profiles, rejected ads, private account details, payment records and KYC claim details are not public.
4. Who may receive information
Access is limited to staff and contractors who need it to operate, secure or moderate the platform. We may use service providers for site hosting, email delivery, payment processing and technical support. When a paid plan is used, the payment provider receives the information needed to complete the payment. We may also disclose information where required by law or when reasonably necessary to protect people, investigate fraud or enforce our Terms.
Some service providers may process data outside Kenya. Where that happens, we will use appropriate safeguards or obtain consent where required.
5. Retention and security
We keep information for as long as it is reasonably needed for the purpose described here, including moderation, fraud prevention, accounting, dispute handling and legal obligations. We then delete it or remove identifying details where appropriate. Access controls, password protection and review procedures help reduce risk, but no online service can promise absolute security.
6. Your choices and rights
Subject to applicable law, you may ask to know how your personal data is used, request access, correct inaccurate information, object to certain processing or request deletion of false or misleading data. Kenya’s Office of the Data Protection Commissioner explains these rights on its rights of a data subject page.
To make a request, email admin@example.com from the address connected to your account and tell us what you need. We may ask for enough information to confirm that the request is genuinely yours. You may also raise a complaint with the Office of the Data Protection Commissioner.
7. Cookies
Cookies and similar tools help the site remember a session, keep forms working, protect against misuse and understand basic site performance. You can control cookies through your browser. Blocking some cookies may affect sign-in or other account features.
8. Children
Expatriate Zone is not designed for children to create accounts or post listings. If you believe a child has given us personal information without appropriate authority, contact us so that we can review and remove it where appropriate.
9. Updates and contact
We may update this policy when our tools, services or legal obligations change. The date at the top shows the last review. Questions, access requests and privacy concerns can be sent to admin@example.com or through the site’s contact page.
This policy is intended to reflect the Kenya Data Protection Act. The site owner should keep the operator’s legal name and support contact current before launch.
